Metal Gear Solid (a.k.a. The Holy Grail)
Many years, I've enjoyed the story mister Kojima created about the Metal Gears and the persons involving them. Brilliant piece of art is you ask me. Though I was one of the many haters of MGS2 when they put in Raiden, I like what they did to him in MGS4. It has been more than 10 years now since Metal Gear Solid was released, I still remember the day I played it. The magnificent first level, outside the facility, with the camera's, it was awesome! Though I kinda sucked back then, because I was always being spotted over and over again (guess I was too young to study the A.I. and their walking patterns), I just kept playing. Later on, when the story was about to spread its wings and fly like a beautiful bird in the sky (or a metal gear), I didn't actually follow it. There was alot of skipping (partly because I was too young and stuff like la-li-lu-le-lo just sounded cool) and that actually constrained the game to let me love it. Years later, I replayed the game, with a much more developed interest for stories and it grabbed me like a mother not having seen her baby for a couple years.

Though there are many fans of the series, I actually do understand that people can't keep up with the story and kinda want to skip everything when they already lost the main plot (la-li-lu-le-what?). It's like comparing it to art. If you look at the Nachtwacht from Rembrandt without any interest for art, you might just see a couple strange clothed men about to have a fight somewhere (maybe some oldfashioned gangwar, with pikes :D). But, if you are interested in art, and study the context, you might see alot more than just a couple men. You will see a contraction of many little stories put in one painting. That is just how Metal Gear Solid works. The core of the game might interest a lot of people just because the action and stealth is awesome. But when you really get into the story, understand its context and see the little details, you really start to enjoy the game and appreciate the mind of Kojima.
New generation through HD remake
Metal Gear Solid, the original game, is already becoming old nowadays. Some people who played part 4, never had the chance to play part 1 or are just too young to have played it (ok, I know, it kinda looks like I'm talking about one of the first games ever, when it's actually just a game from 1998). If the HD remake is actually being developed (we can't really say it is official, ironically enough, it is just being said in the Official Playstation Magazine, as an 'insider'), it does finally give everyone a chance. A chance everyone must grab with their bare hands! (including the bear-hands). Maybe now, people have a slight interest how the story began and it is now being offered in HD (so it might just attract some graphic whores too, instead of just some retro dudes). This is the refreshing chance of recruiting more fans for the series. I wish I could say 'so that everyone will buy the new title if it comes', but you know Kojima, he said he was gonna stop developing new MGS games, like, since part 3 (meanwhile, we have some PSP titles too, like Peace Walker). But if the sales of the HD trilogy make Kojima's heart beat faster (now that might work both ways, beat faster because of high sales, sheer happiness, or beat faster because of low sales, pure anger) so he will consider a new title or something. Maybe a HD version of Peace Walker, or maybe, just maybe, Metal Gear Solid 5? I know some series just have to be left alone to conserve their magic. It's just that, MGS is such an awesome serie with an awesome big story! Pure art for the fans!
Patience you must have, my fellow MGS brother
The remake is not yet officially announced, so a release date is still unknown. Though I can't wait for the main theme to share its epicness through my Dolby Surround. It will be like naked 20 year old female angels singing next to me on the couch before the real magic is about to happen! My advice for the ones who didn't live their lives with the memory of Metal Gear Solid, IF the remake comes, go buy it. It will enlighten you, it will grow your cultural capital, it will rock your world, it will sneak through your mind and strike you in your heart like a rose hits the skin of Angelina Jolie (wait, what?). Main message: Buy it or gtfo!
