Dynasty Warriors 7, why?

This year, Dynasty Warriors 7 will be released on the Xbox 360 & PS3. I can't really say ''part 7 in the series'' because every part has its own expansion-like games like Empires which adds some modes like character creation (sometimes it's already there in the orginal). But what is up with this franchise? Why does it sell every time? Does it ever improve? I will give you a little preview of part 7 and some experiences with the older games of the franchise and why it is losing its magic.

Dynasty Warriors part ''same shit all over again'', or?

Dynasty Warriors let's you play a faction of the Three Kingdoms, Wu, Shu and Wei. The goal is to achieve total victory with your faction. Along the way you'll be enjoying little cinematics and context for the story. This never impressed me, especially after a couple games like DW5, DW5 Empires, DW6, DW6 Empires almost used alot of the same kinda lines and cinematics. It's not really fair to say that every part is an EXACT copy of the last one, but the changes are always subtle and thus a bit disappointing. Now what are the changes in Dynasty Warriors 7, well, I was surprised.

The Jin Clan

Xiahou Dun
One major difference in part 7 of our favorite Japanese franchise, is the addition of a new clan, the Jin clan. According to history, this is more likely accurate than what is being told in the series before. I know that most gamers really don't give a shit, but it's always nice to give a little context. This clan will also have its own generals and all, which contributes to the major choice that a player has in the games. I'm really excited about this new addition, since it paves the way for new levels and story, which is always welcome in a game, but especially in the DW franchise.

Some new things

Some other additions are for example the two-weapon option, so no more upgrade things or choosing your weapon before starting. Now you can rule with a sword and hammer, or spear and pompons (you never know what they used back then). On the official site, it also says there is a flawless flow from cinematic to in-game action to make it more cinematic. Also, before starting the battle, it's possible to talk to generals before jumping on your horse to raise your bodycount. Nice additions, I must say. Though some things always bugged me, and it's a structural fault in the system...it comes back everytime!
When someone looks at you like this....run!

Dynasty Warriors, curse and blessing

Believe me, I'm one of those fans who buys every game that comes out over and over again (though not for the full price). Still, every time I buy a game and start playing it, I get slapped in the face with the same old animations, terrain textures (like they look from the PS2) and lame comments being said over and over again. At the same time, this slap in the face is a kind of a slap that gives you the nostalgic feeling and you are starting to like it (ok, my metaphore is beginning to be freaky). It brings you back to the thought of: Yeah, I'm definetely playing Dynasty Warriors. Though it would still be very nice to see better textures, better animations and some online co-op things. I wondered why they are being soooo lazy! But hey, every time a new game comes out, it sells like crazy cause the fornula is still the strongest part of the game. Are you expecting a game with full story, full immersion with diverse gameplay, well, you are about to be surprised in the bad way. But for the fans, it still has that magic of slashing through armies, bodycount raisers, musou rage, badass weapons, badass characters (Lu Bu), upgrading self created characters to own again. It is precisely those little things why I will wait for Dynasty Warriors 7 and buy it when it comes out...
